Ideal for a person's first Xavier Expedition. On this First-year Seminar expedition, we visit Pueblo dwellings, ritual sites and petroglyphs of an ancient people. We hike into the Grand Canyon and through high desert plateaus, ponderosa steppes and mystical canyonlands of the Navajo Nation. We then conclude with campfire storytelling under the starry skies and a Navajo-led sweat lodge ceremony.

Story of Earth, Story of Us: Namibia, Africa

STUDENT VIDEO! In partnership with Xavier's Study Abroad and Ritter Safaris Namibia, this expedition takes us to the edge of Namibia's Kalahari. We live for eight of our 16 days on a safari ranch. We visit an exclusive rhino orphanage. We observe +2,000 year old human footprints and remains via ATV and hike to the top of a massive sand dune in the Namib Desert. We walk with San bushmen to learn about medicinal plants and animal-tracking. We learn from Namibians by working alongside them in gardens and with cattle. We safari to see giraffes, zebras and elephants, and observe lions feeding.

We reflect upon Earth as our primary reality, as the very community that shaped our intellectual perceptions and religious imagination. We live alongside and drink from glacial streams and we share the landscape with grizzlies, moose, Dahl’s sheep, golden eagles, wolves and wolverines.

Journey to the Midnight Sun: Gates of the Arctic National Preserve

SEE STUDENT VIDEO!! 200 miles north of the Arctic Circle--this is where our bush pilot will drop us off. We spend days in a treeless wilderness to reflect upon Earth as our primary reality. We live alongside and drink from glacial streams. We sometimes eat the fish we catch and the berries we pick, and we share the landscape with bears, dahl sheep, caribou, ptarmigan, and golden eagles.
